Zoom is making a significant push beyond video calls, announcing a suite of AI-driven workplace tools headlined by long-promised AI avatars. Starting this month, users can deploy photorealistic digital stand-ins that replicate their appearance and expressions in meetings. The company is also introducing a deepfake detection system designed to flag potential audio or video impersonation during those same sessions.

Alongside the avatar technology, Zoom unveiled its own answer to cloud-based office software: AI-powered Docs, Sheets, and Slides applications. These tools, set for a preview release this spring, can generate drafts, spreadsheets, and presentations using data from meeting transcripts and connected services.

The company reports rapid adoption of its existing AI Companion, with monthly active users more than tripling in the last quarter of its 2026 fiscal year. This assistant is now integrated into the desktop app and will be added to Workvivo, Zoom's employee communication platform. It can pull information from a wide range of business tools including Slack, Salesforce, and Microsoft Outlook.

Zoom is also enabling users to build custom AI agents using simple language prompts, which can then be activated within chats to complete tasks. For developers, the company is releasing a set of speech, vision, and language APIs for on-premise or cloud deployment.

This expansion places Zoom in direct competition with collaborative work platforms from companies like Canva and Salesforce's Slack, which have been aggressively adding AI features. To streamline its own ecosystem, Zoom plans a unified design across desktop, mobile, and web interfaces, aiming to make AI tools for notes and summaries more accessible.
