In a move to enhance user experience, YouTube has introduced a slew of updates to its Shorts feature, bringing it closer to the functionality of TikTok. The latest additions include a 'clear screen' mode, which strips away icons and text from videos, providing a more immersive viewing experience. This feature is reminiscent of TikTok's own 'clear mode', which has been a staple of the platform for years. YouTube has also replaced the traditional 'thumbs-up' button with a 'heart' icon, a gesture that echoes TikTok's own 'like' feature.
Furthermore, users can now watch Shorts at double the speed by holding down the edge of their screen and lifting their finger to revert to normal speed. Alternatively, they can lock the speed at 2x by pressing the player and swiping down. Another notable update allows users to mute videos by tapping the screen and selecting the 'mute' button. These updates underscore YouTube's efforts to make Shorts a more engaging and user-friendly platform, one that can rival the popularity of TikTok.
Notably, YouTube is also removing the 'dislike' button, instead encouraging users to provide feedback through the 'Not interested' and 'Don't recommend this channel' options. By streamlining its features and enhancing the viewing experience, YouTube aims to make Shorts a more compelling destination for users.
