Yandex Restores Core Services After Drone Strikes on Data Centers

Yandex has announced that basic functionality is back online for several of its digital products, including Mail, Disk, Telemost, Documents, Calendar and Tracker, after disruptions caused by attacks on its data center infrastructure. Engineers are still working to fully restore the Yandex 360 ecosystem.

In Mail, users can again send messages over 1 megabyte with attachments, use SMTP and IMAP protocols, receive push notifications on web and mobile, and rely on automatic draft saving. Document previews have returned to Mail, Disk and Telemost, and Telemost has resumed cloud recording of meetings for later viewing.

Calendar is fully stable on both web and mobile apps. Documents has restored online file editing, and the desktop app now supports offline work with downloaded files. Disk has fixed download and synchronization problems in versions 3.0 and 4.0, though the company warned some files may still be difficult to open. Tracker has brought back plugins, its notification system, Mail integration for sending letters, and the option to buy corporate add-ons for organizations with active subscriptions.

Earlier the same day, Yandex reported that key tools in its Direct advertising platform were working again. Advertisers can create and edit campaigns of any type, manage their statuses, register new accounts and carry out financial operations including topping up balances, setting up autopay, overdraft and weekly budget limits. Library objects and user settings are also restored, and all ad placement venues are available.

The company acknowledged some temporary limits in Direct: delays in Lift research results, longer generation times for neural ads without preview or status tracking, and delayed updates to precise location segments, with new segments not yet available. Change history, the recommendation system, some AI assistant scenarios and the client transfer function remain switched off, and media campaigns cannot yet activate frequency maximization strategies, Brand Lift or brand metric growth.

A day earlier, Yandex confirmed that city B2C services integrated into the Yandex Go app were back, including taxi rides, scooter and car rentals, food and grocery orders, delivery and power bank services, route planning in Yandex Transport and Yandex Fueling.

Since October 7, drones have attacked three Yandex data centers - in Sasovo in the Ryazan region, Kaluga and Vladimir. The latest attack knocked out two substations, leaving five thousand residents without electricity, and also disabled the Yandex Pro app used to register couriers and drivers.
