Yandex has moved three of its supercomputers to new computing sites after a series of drone attacks, the company said. The clusters - named Lyapunov, Galushkin and Chervonenkis - were taken out of their previous locations and are now being set up at new facilities. Yandex described them as self-contained computing clusters that will be spread across different sites and continue to serve as infrastructure for its services and for training foundation language models.
The company said the supercomputers themselves were not damaged in the recent attacks.
The move follows an incident on 11 October, when Yandex's data centre in Vladimir halted operations entirely because of enemy action. Data centres in Sasovo and Kaluga were also affected, according to the report. The disruption triggered a large-scale outage that hit both Yandex's own services and the Russian internet, known as Runet: users reported problems with payment systems, taxi and maps apps, social networks and mobile operators.
