In a significant development, the US government has given Anthropic the go-ahead to share its Mythos 5 AI model with around 100 companies and government agencies. This decision comes after a two-week stalemate between the Trump administration and the AI company over the release of its latest models. According to a Commerce Department spokesperson, the government has been working to balance its goal of maintaining America's leadership in AI with the need to protect national security. Earlier this month, Anthropic had disabled access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models in response to an export control directive from the government.

The company had been instructed to suspend access to the models for all foreign nationals, including its own foreign national employees. Following a meeting between senior Anthropic staff and Trump administration officials in Washington D. C. , the US Commerce Secretary reportedly stated that Anthropic has been working with the government to address risks associated with the models.

The release of the Mythos 5 model to select companies and agencies marks a major breakthrough in the negotiations between the government and Anthropic. The company had been working to resolve the issue quickly, and this decision is seen as a positive step forward. With this development, Anthropic can now share its advanced AI model with a limited group of organizations, paving the way for potential collaborations and innovations in the field.
