An AI agent may be running on a laptop somewhere in your network right now, holding API keys and database passwords, reaching into internal systems with no one watching. No one reviewed its access. No one owns it. If an employee had that much reach with that little oversight, you would call it an insider risk - yet the agent still gets called a productivity tool.
Much of the AI security conversation focuses on what threat actors do with the technology. The bigger threat may already be inside the organization. That is the subject of an upcoming webinar, AI as an Insider Threat: From Shadow AI to Governed AI, featuring expert guest Richard De La Torre, Technical Product Marketing Manager at Bitdefender.
AI agents, coding assistants, MCP servers and browser extensions are appearing across the business, not just among developers - and most never cross the network gateway in a way existing tools would recognize. The AI with the most access is often the AI security teams cannot see. According to Bitdefender's 2026 Cybersecurity Assessment report, only 51.8% of organizations say they have full visibility into the AI tools staff use. IBM found that 20% of breached organizations were compromised through shadow AI.
New Bitdefender Labs research examines what is actually running on real endpoints, including a malicious agent skill caught in the wild. Blocking AI outright is the obvious response but tends to fail; the session presents governed adoption as the alternative. Attendees will learn where AI shows up on endpoints and why current tools miss most of it, why an AI agent with credentials and no owner behaves like an insider risk, and what governed adoption looks like in practice.
