The world of independent game development is thriving, with thousands of new titles emerging every month. Amidst this crowded landscape, it's easy for innovative games to fly under the radar. That's why we're shining a spotlight on I'M YOUR HOST, a fascinating audio deduction game from Calligram Studio. We spoke with co-founder Jigmé Özer about the game's unique concept, which involves restoring lost podcast episodes using a custom OS.
With a team of just three people, Özer, Eleanor Summers, and Alexander Smith are pouring their hearts into this project, inspired by the idea of exploring the space between reality and fiction. Özer's background in video and audio editing sparked the idea for I'M YOUR HOST, which delves into themes of paranoia, technological coercion, and the manipulation of editing. The game's retro-futurism aesthetic is a deliberate choice, evoking the tactile quality of old computer operating systems and video editing software. As a smaller developer, Calligram Studio is carving out its own niche, and Özer believes that larger companies can support indie developers by rethinking their revenue sharing models.
With I'M YOUR HOST, Calligram Studio is pushing the boundaries of interactive storytelling, and we can't wait to see the final result. The game is currently in development for PC, Mac, and Linux, and can be wishlisted on Steam.
