Unconventional Storytelling: Signet City RPG Blends British History and Dark Fantasy

Gareth Damian Martin, the developer behind Citizen Sleeper, is working on a new RPG called Signet City. This upcoming game is set in a dystopian, monochromatic city on the brink of collapse, where players take on the role of a parasite controlling different human hosts. Martin's inspiration for the game is diverse, drawing from their British upbringing, horror manga, and musicals. The game's setting is an alternate universe version of a 1980s northern British city, with a focus on the industrialization collapse and its impact on the community.

Martin also found inspiration in the Winter of Discontent, a pivotal moment in British history marked by labor struggles and ecological events. The game's unique blend of dark fantasy and historical references is reflected in its visuals, which are influenced by the work of photographer Tish Murtha and the manga Abara. Martin's goal is to create a sense of overlapping perspectives, with the player experiencing the game world through both the parasite's and the host's eyes. The game's story will explore themes of power, control, and the blurring of lines between human and non-human entities.

With its unconventional storytelling and blend of influences, Signet City is shaping up to be a thought-provoking and unsettling RPG experience. Players can expect to see the game's unique blend of horror, history, and fantasy come together sometime next year, and can currently wishlist the game on Steam.
