Uber Rolls Out ChatGPT Work to All 30,000 Employees

Uber is expanding its partnership with OpenAI, putting ChatGPT Work in the hands of its entire global workforce of roughly 30,000 people, the company told TechCrunch.
ChatGPT Work, an enterprise-focused AI agent for corporate workflows introduced in July, was first piloted at Uber with 1,000 employees earlier this year before the company scaled it companywide. The pilot spanned finance, operations and product teams, and about 80% of early adopters were non-engineers, according to Sumanth Sukumar, Uber's VP of engineering.
Sukumar said those workers used the tool for tasks such as analyzing operational data to spot trends and develop recommendations, localizing training materials for different markets and languages, and building personalized dashboards for daily work.
Uber hasn't settled on exactly how employees will use ChatGPT and didn't disclose what it's spending on the rollout. Sukumar said the company will track how employees use the technology, the workflows they develop and how it improves their effectiveness, then use those findings to guide AI deployment across the business. Earlier this year, Uber also paired 30 AI engineers with teams across the company for two-week sprints to automate key parts of their jobs.
OpenAI worked closely with Uber on integrating the chatbot, the company said. The move comes as OpenAI pushes to grow its enterprise business in competition with rival Anthropic.
