Twenty countries, including France, Germany and Turkey, along with the European Commission, have adopted a declaration stating that artificial intelligence must remain under human control. The initiative was announced by the office of Finnish President Alexander Stubb, one of the document's initiators.
The declaration calls on AI companies to develop transparent mechanisms to ensure that the development of AI does not threaten humanity's future. These should include safety protocols, mandatory testing and independent evaluation. Governments and regional organizations are urged to further develop and coordinate common standards and increase transparency, including through joint reporting on safety incidents.
The signatories also called on UN members to examine the possibility of creating an international institute capable of setting standards, providing verification and convening states when thresholds are exceeded.
