Tesla Fires Up Production of Driverless Cybercab, Musk Confirms

Elon Musk has confirmed that Tesla has begun manufacturing its long-awaited autonomous taxi, the Cybercab. In a post on his X platform, the world’s wealthiest person simply stated, “Cybercab has started production. ” The vehicle, unveiled in October 2024, is a radical departure from conventional cars—it has no steering wheel or pedals. Musk has claimed that riding in it will eventually be ten times easier than operating a standard vehicle.

The timing is critical for Tesla. After a difficult year marked by tariff pressures and political controversies surrounding its CEO, the company is counting on the Cybercab to stabilize its market position. Intense competition in China’s electric vehicle sector adds further urgency. At the ongoing Beijing Auto Show, a rival autonomous van was unveiled as a direct competitor to the Cybercab.

That prototype reportedly can navigate toll booths and plot routes on unmarked roads without human intervention. For Tesla, the race to deliver a truly driverless fleet is no longer a concept—it’s a production reality.
