Suno Hits 2 Million Subscribers Amid Industry Turbulence

Suno, a leading AI music generation platform, now has two million paying users, CEO Mikey Shulman confirmed this week. The company also reported its annual recurring revenue has exceeded $300 million. Shulman framed this growth as a response to widespread fatigue with passive, algorithm-driven entertainment. "Endless scrolling has flattened culture," he stated. "People want to create, not just consume. Suno allows them to participate directly in music-making."

This success is not without significant conflict. Suno faces major copyright lawsuits from Sony and Universal Music Group, following a settlement with Warner Music last year. Several artist advocacy groups recently published a letter, "Say No To Suno," accusing the company of flooding the market with AI-generated content that devalues artists' work and dilutes royalty payments.

Further complicating the picture, AI music tools have been linked to streaming fraud. Deezer reported approximately 60,000 AI tracks uploaded to its service daily, with up to 85% of streams on such content deemed fraudulent. Apple Music cited this manipulation risk when it increased penalties for streaming fraud earlier this year.

Despite the controversies, Suno is gaining traction as a professional tool. Songwriters and producers are increasingly using it for demos and creative assistance. The company is also building its executive team with music industry veterans, including former Merlin CEO Jeremy Sirota, who joined as chief commercial officer. "What excites me about Suno," Sirota said, "is the opportunity to shape a future where music becomes more interactive."
