A new company called Reload is operating on a straightforward premise: if artificial intelligence agents are becoming employees, they need a manager. The startup has secured $2.275 million in pre-seed funding to develop a platform that oversees AI workers much like a human resources department handles people.

Founded by CEO Zahra Amanpour, Reload argues that as businesses deploy more AI agents for tasks from customer service to data analysis, the operational chaos will mount. Who tracks performance? Who handles permissions and security protocols? Who decides when an agent is no longer effective? Reload's platform aims to answer these questions by providing tools for onboarding, monitoring, evaluating, and decommissioning AI agents across various underlying models.

The company's central product is an AI agent designed to manage other AI agents. This system monitors behavior, flags performance issues, and ensures compliance with company rules, acting as a digital supervisor for software-based workers.

Investors including Everywhere Ventures, Precursor Ventures, Unpopular Ventures, and Gaingels backed the round. They are betting on a market emerging from the rapid adoption of AI agents. While still nascent, research firms project a significant portion of daily work will soon involve autonomous AI decision-making.

Some observers question whether major cloud platforms will eventually dominate this management layer, or if the comparison to human resources is apt. Reload's challenge is to prove that enterprises need a dedicated system for their AI workforce as deployments scale beyond pilot projects.

The funding will support product development and early customer acquisition, focusing on sectors like finance and healthcare where governance is critical. For Reload, the goal is to become the essential system for a new class of employee.
