Spotify closed 2025 with historic user growth, adding 38 million monthly active users in the final quarter—the largest quarterly jump in the company's history. The platform now reaches 751 million global listeners each month, with paid subscribers climbing to 290 million. Both figures surpassed the company's own forecasts.

The surge was driven by a popular year-end Wrapped campaign and improvements to its free mobile service. Financially, quarterly revenue hit €4.5 billion, matching projections, while operating income of €701 million exceeded expectations. The news sent shares up 10% in pre-market trading.

Not all segments grew equally. Revenue from ads declined by 4%, as increased sales of music ad impressions were undercut by lower prices. The podcast division saw sponsorship growth, though the company noted this was tempered by adjustments to its podcast inventory. Spotify's expansion into video and audiobooks continues, now hosting over 530,000 video podcasts and half a million English-language audiobooks.

Looking ahead, Spotify anticipates 759 million monthly users and 293 million subscribers for the first quarter of 2026. Revenue is expected to hold steady, with operating income projected to dip to €660 million due to new social charges.

This new chapter begins under fresh leadership. As of January 1, founder Daniel Ek moved to Executive Chairman. Co-CEOs Gustav Söderström and Alex Norström now steer the company. "We closed what we called the Year of Accelerated Execution with a strong finish," Norström stated. "We're framing 2026 as the Year of Raising Ambition. That drive has been essential from the start, and it will guide our next phase."
