Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has introduced IA360, a roadmap of concrete measures for the next 12 months aimed at helping Spain take advantage of what artificial intelligence offers the economy while putting citizen safety, trust and the protection of vulnerable groups - especially minors - first, according to the government.
The plan sets out four main tracks: strengthening the country's technological infrastructure, speeding up AI adoption in the economy and education, tightening oversight and security, and reaching a nationwide agreement to help adapt to changes in the labour market and daily life.
Specifics include developing an AI gigafactory project and, together with the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, building new AI models to tackle climate change impacts, energy and healthcare. The government also plans to expand its network of data centres while taking environmental and energy requirements into account.
A dedicated "AI voucher" will be created for small and medium-sized businesses and the self-employed. Authorities expect more than half of Spanish companies to use AI by 2030, and intend to adapt secondary school and vocational training programmes to the technology's spread.
A separate strand covers security, with plans to bolster cyber protection and oversight of the most advanced AI models.
