Sony Honda Mobility (SHM) has announced a concrete timeline for its first electric vehicle. The company confirmed it will begin delivering the Afeela 1 sedan to U.S. customers in the latter part of 2026, with a starting price of $90,000. The announcement provides a long-awaited target for a project that has captivated the tech and automotive industries since its inception.

During a recent presentation, SHM also offered a glimpse of its future direction with an SUV concept vehicle. Chief Executive Yasuhide Mizuno described the model as an "early-stage concept," indicating it is intended to shape a production SUV for the American market, potentially arriving by 2028. The concept, named the Afeela Prototype 2026, shares the sedan's design philosophy, featuring a spacious cabin enabled by a long wheelbase and short body overhangs, but on a larger scale. The company did not release further specifications.

While the SUV concept points to an expanded lineup, the confirmed delivery window for the Afeela 1 marks a significant step. It moves the ambitious collaboration between the Japanese electronics giant and the storied automaker from prototype showcases toward commercial reality. The venture aims to blend Sony's expertise in sensors, entertainment, and software with Honda's automotive manufacturing prowess, creating a new type of connected vehicle.
