Snapchat is rolling out the red carpet for its top users. On March 21, the platform will host its inaugural creator awards ceremony, dubbed 'The Snappys,' a live event designed to honor the individuals driving trends and community on the app.

The awards span a wide range, from 'Spotlight MVP' and 'Best Storyteller' to categories focused on fashion, beauty, sports, and music. In a statement, Snapchat emphasized that the honors recognize creators as artists and cultural leaders, not just participants. The show will be held at the company's Santa Monica headquarters, hosted by comedian Matt Friend, and will feature a performance and lifetime achievement award for DJ Khaled.

This move aligns Snapchat with industry rivals who have established similar ceremonies. Instagram introduced its global creator 'Ring' awards last fall, while TikTok held its first U.S. awards show in November, following events in several other countries. Like TikTok's approach, The Snappys will be a traditional live ceremony where winners are announced in real time, gathering creators and industry figures.

Analysts see these events as a strategic push by social platforms to cement their roles within the entertainment industry itself, positioning their top talent alongside traditional media stars. Snapchat plans to announce nominees in the coming weeks.
