South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix saw its shares skyrocket by 11% on Thursday, following the announcement of its plans to raise a staggering $29. 4 billion through a Nasdaq listing. The company intends to issue 17. 79 million new shares in the form of American depositary receipts, which could potentially raise 45.

45 trillion won ($29. 65 billion) if successful. SK Hynix aims to start trading on July 10, although this timeline is subject to change. By listing on the Nasdaq, the company hopes to expand its investor base and have its corporate value accurately reflected.

SK Hynix is positioning itself for growth, driven by the surging demand for artificial intelligence chips. The company is investing heavily in its semiconductor cluster in Yongin, South Korea, slated to open in 2027, and is also building a $4 billion advanced chip-packaging plant in Indiana, its first production facility in the US. This strategic move is expected to elevate SK Hynix's status as a global player, particularly in the US, a hub for AI innovation. With its sights set on meeting the booming demand for AI chips, SK Hynix is poised for significant expansion and growth in the coming years.
