Schumer Demands Classified AI Briefing for Senators
Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer is pressing the Trump administration to give all senators a classified briefing on the risks of artificial intelligence.

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer is pressing the Trump administration to give all senators a classified briefing on the risks of artificial intelligence.
The request followed a warning from an Anthropic researcher that companies racing toward artificial superintelligence are "gambling with our lives."
In a statement, Schumer said the American people deserve better at such a consequential moment. He said he has long argued for keeping the U.S. as the global leader in AI innovation and security, but that innovation must come with serious guardrails that earn public trust.
"Warning bells are ringing louder than they ever have - and the Trump administration is looking the other way," Schumer said. "Well, if they won't hold themselves accountable, we will. And if Trump does not act, Congress must."
Schumer wants the administration to answer questions on three fronts: a full accounting of its new framework for testing the most powerful frontier AI models, its efforts to stop AI chips and semiconductor manufacturing equipment from reaching China, and its plans to defend the U.S. against increasingly sophisticated AI-enabled cyberattacks.
The request comes as others on Capitol Hill have sought briefings or more guardrails on the technology. Trump and GOP leaders have pushed back on the growing AI fears.
