Sandbar, founded by former Meta engineers Mina Fahmi and Kirak Hong, has closed a $23 million Series A financing round. The investment, led by Adjacent and Kindred Ventures, will accelerate production and software development for its Stream smart ring, a wearable device designed exclusively for voice note-taking and AI interaction.

The Stream ring distinguishes itself from health-focused wearables. It features a touch-sensitive panel that, when held, activates a built-in microphone tuned for close-range speech. Users lift their hand to their face to record notes, chat with an AI assistant via a paired phone app, or control media playback. This deliberate gesture is intended to ensure privacy and signal clear user intent.

"The reaction to our launch was genuinely surprising and encouraging," Fahmi told TechCrunch. "Our first pre-order batch sold out, prompting us to open a second. Some early users interact with the ring more than fifty times daily for planning and brainstorming."

Shipments are scheduled to begin this summer. The company, currently a team of 15 with experience from Amazon, Google, and Apple, plans to double its software and machine learning staff. Immediate priorities include refining the app experience, reducing AI response latency, and developing a web platform. A longer-term goal is to enable more complex, multi-step actions from recorded notes.

Fahmi emphasized developing conversational AI. "Many users ask follow-up questions about incomplete notes," he said. "We're building for iterative dialogue, not just single commands."

The note-taking hardware field is expanding, with competitors like Plaud and Pebble entering the market. Investor Nico Wittenborn of Adjacent, who previously backed voice-summary service Blinkist, believes Sandbar's form factor avoids a niche aesthetic. "The design promotes widespread adoption," he noted, "and the lifting action inherently protects privacy."

Sandbar's total funding now stands at $36 million following an earlier $13 million round in late 2025.
