Samsung Electronics has reported a historic financial performance for the final quarter of 2025, with operating profit rocketing to 20. 1 trillion won ($14 billion). That figure, more than triple the previous year's result, sets a new company record. Revenue also reached an unprecedented 93.

8 trillion won ($65. 58 billion), a 24% annual increase. The driving force is a global scramble for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips, the specialized semiconductors required to train and run advanced artificial intelligence systems. This surge has created a severe shortage, pushing prices for all types of memory dramatically higher.

Samsung's semiconductor division, its core business, achieved its highest-ever revenue and profit, fueled by this intense demand from AI data center operators like Meta and Amazon. The company's full-year 2025 operating profit reached 43. 53 trillion won, a 33% jump from 2024. While rival SK Hynix currently leads in HBM market share, Samsung's dominance in NAND flash and conventional DRAM gives it a powerful position.

The company plans to triple its HBM shipments in 2026 as it ramps up production of next-generation HBM4 chips, reportedly for use in Nvidia's upcoming Rubin AI platform. Industry analysts warn the shortage is systemic. As manufacturers like Samsung convert factory lines to produce high-margin AI chips, the supply of standard memory for personal computers and smartphones has dwindled, causing prices for those components to rise 40% to 50% in recent months. Micron Technology's CEO has stated the market will remain extremely tight beyond 2026, with production meeting only half to two-thirds of key customer demand.

For consumers, this industrial shift means continued pressure on prices for electronics. Samsung itself cautioned that component shortages and rising costs will affect its own gadget divisions, even as its semiconductor business posts extraordinary gains.
