Salesforce announced Monday it will acquire AI-powered customer service startup Fin for approximately $3.6 billion, signaling a major bet on autonomous agents for enterprise support. The deal, expected to close in the fourth quarter of Salesforce's fiscal 2027, is designed to strengthen the company's Agentforce platform with new deployment options for agentic AI, according to an official release.

Fin's core product is an AI agent that handles customer queries across chat, email, WhatsApp, text, phone, and Slack. The agent runs on Fin's proprietary AI model, Apex. Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff framed the acquisition as a way to help companies of all sizes "accelerate time to value with trusted agents that deliver measurable outcomes at scale."

The move comes as Salesforce, like many SaaS firms, faces mounting pressure from the rise of autonomous AI tools that some analysts worry could disrupt its traditional subscription model. Salesforce shares have lost more than a third of their value in 2026 amid these concerns. Meanwhile, the agentic AI race is heating up, forcing companies to invest heavily in more independent customer-facing technologies.

Fin CEO Eoghan McCabe noted on social media that the startup has been "shipping intensely" and expects Salesforce's resources to accelerate its work. The acquisition is one of Salesforce's largest, trailing only its $27 billion purchase of Slack in 2021.
