In a significant shift, Russian investors have more than doubled their investment in precious metals, according to Arina Kostryukova, Director of Currency and Precious Metals Markets at the Moscow Exchange. Since the start of 2025, the proportion of individual investments in precious metals on the Moscow Exchange has increased by 2. 3 times. Notably, gold accounts for 76% of all individual investments in precious metals on the exchange, while silver makes up 22%.
The Moscow Exchange has been expanding its retail segment for precious metals, and in 2026, it launched an over-the-counter trading mode with an anonymous quote request service. The first gold trades were concluded in May with major gold producers. Additionally, the exchange has introduced fixings for silver, platinum, and palladium, which reflect the prices of these metals at a fixed moment in time. Kostryukova emphasized that the Moscow Exchange is consistently developing its precious metals market, considering it a strategic direction.
Individual investors can trade gold, silver, platinum, and palladium on the exchange, with each gram purchased backed by physical metal stored in a repository. This development underscores the growing interest in precious metals among Russian investors, with gold and silver being the most popular choices.
