Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree requiring privately owned data centres in the country to set aside 10% of their space and capacity, according to the document published on the official legal acts portal.
Under the decree, owners of data centres that are not federal state bodies must complete the reservation within 10 days of the order taking effect. The reserved capacity will continue to be used by the private operators themselves.
The government has been instructed to form a subcommission overseeing the uninterrupted operation of IT and communications facilities. Once that body issues a decision, data centres must supply capacity within 24 hours to support the functioning of information resources. The subcommission will also set the fee paid for providing that capacity.
