Google announced today that it has acquired ProducerAI, an innovative platform that uses artificial intelligence to assist musicians. The tool, which has been tested and endorsed by artists like The Chainsmokers, will now operate under Google's experimental Labs division.

Launched in mid-2025, ProducerAI functions as a collaborative AI partner for songwriting. It helps users generate instrumentals, refine lyrics, and remix tracks. Following the acquisition, its core technology will be powered by a preview of Google's new Lyria 3 model for music generation.

According to Google Labs product director Elias Roman, the platform's strength is its conversational approach. "ProducerAI is built for dialogue," Roman explained. "It's not about typing a single command and hoping for the best. Good music involves iteration, and this is designed for that creative back-and-forth."

The system integrates several Google AI models: Lyria 3 for music, Gemini for conversation, Nano Banana for generating album art, and Veo for creating music videos. All outputs will carry Google's SynthID watermark, identifying them as AI-assisted. ProducerAI will continue as a standalone service with a free tier and subscription plans starting at $8 monthly.

The move comes as the music industry grapples with the role of AI. While some platforms ban AI-generated content, Google's investment signals a focus on tools that aim to augment, rather than replace, the human creative process. ProducerAI is now available worldwide for users to test.
