A recent investigation by the Wall Street Journal has uncovered a questionable marketing strategy employed by Polymarket, a prediction market platform. The company allegedly paid online creators to produce and share videos showcasing fake bets and winnings, giving the illusion of lucrative trades. The Journal analyzed over 1,100 videos and reviewed instructional materials provided to creators, revealing that many of these videos were filmed on replicas of the Polymarket website, featuring fabricated trades and payouts. A marketing contractor amplified these videos through a network of social media accounts, further spreading the misleading content.

Creators were initially instructed not to disclose their paid partnership with Polymarket, although some later added a disclaimer to their bios after being contacted by journalists. One creator, Razeen Khan, likened the practice to exaggerated fast food commercials, saying it misrepresents the actual experience. In response, Polymarket has stated its commitment to maintaining accurate and transparent markets, and plans to conduct an audit of its promotional content to address these concerns.
