OpenAI will make its artificial intelligence models available to developers through Google's cloud, a move that follows years of rivalry between the two companies.
OpenAI will make its artificial intelligence models available to developers through Google's cloud, a move that follows years of rivalry between the two companies.
The arrangement extends OpenAI's reach to enterprise developers and places its models on all three of the major cloud infrastructure providers. Less than six months ago, OpenAI said Microsoft would no longer hold an exclusive license on its intellectual property.
Google will bring OpenAI's GPT products to its cloud's model garden and coding tool in the coming weeks. In a blog post, OpenAI said Google Cloud's long-standing investment in machine learning and AI has made it a destination for AI workloads and the developers and data scientists who build them.
Google has posted strong cloud growth this year. Amazon and Microsoft also reported cloud growth, and all three companies report quarterly results next week.
OpenAI was founded in 2015 partly as a counterweight to the concentration of AI research at companies like Google. Google employees later submitted the influential Transformer academic paper that propelled AI, but it was OpenAI that helped bring the technology forward with ChatGPT.
The two companies previously partnered last year, when OpenAI said it was using Google's cloud to run ChatGPT and its application programming interface.
