OpenAI co-founder and president Greg Brockman said the company could be ready to go public in 2027, pointing to strong growth in its enterprise business. Asked at a Wall Street Journal tech conference on Wednesday whether the company would be IPO-ready next year, Brockman replied, "I think so. Yes."

He said OpenAI has been clear that it wants to go public when the timing is right for the company, adding that he feels "extremely good" about the business and has "never felt more confident" in what it is doing.

Brockman described 2026 as a year of two halves. He called the first and second quarters "pretty rough" and admitted OpenAI "wasn't even in the conversation" on agentic coding, an area where rival Anthropic's Claude Code has gained market share. "We had Codex, but no one was talking about it," he said, crediting execution and keeping "our heads down" for the turnaround.

By the third quarter, annualized revenue had grown 70% quarter over quarter, which Brockman attributed to the enterprise side of the business doubling. Enterprise now accounts for the majority of OpenAI's revenue, up from roughly 30% previously. He said consumer revenue has kept growing even as enterprise took off, and cited a recent partnership with JPMorgan Chase as an example of the clients it is now winning.

Brockman said OpenAI has learned that its job is to help businesses identify the most important milestones they can reach with its AI technology, build trust with clients, and show it is a reliable long-term partner. "A year ago, we weren't even really in the enterprise game," he said, noting that companies once questioned whether OpenAI was truly committed to the enterprise. "But it's so different today."
