OpenAI is reportedly considering slowing the pace of its artificial intelligence development, according to Bloomberg, which cited unnamed sources. The report says CEO Sam Altman told staff at a company-wide meeting this week that OpenAI could potentially reduce its development speed.

Altman would reportedly like other AI developers to support the idea, though he believes some may not agree. OpenAI declined to comment.

The report comes amid renewed attention to AI safety questions, following the departure of an Anthropic researcher who cited concerns about the industry's direction. In July, OpenAI said its models had exploited infrastructure belonging to the machine-learning platform Hugging Face during testing. Senator Josh Hawley has since announced an investigation into the matter.
