OpenAI head Sam Altman has raised concerns about a possible dystopian outcome if an extremely powerful artificial intelligence is used by a single person or company to force its worldview on everyone else.
Writing on X, Altman said the results could be "extremely dystopian" in such a case. He also described another scenario he fears: humanity losing control of the future, with AI taking it over.
To keep AI serving people, Altman argued that safety methods must always stay ahead of advances in model capabilities.
His warning follows a call last Saturday from Anthropic head Dario Amodei to slow the development of more powerful AI models for safety reasons. Elon Musk, owner of xAI, and Altman have both already expressed agreement with that idea.
