In a major move for the AI infrastructure sector, startup Nscale announced a $2 billion Series C funding round on Monday, valuing the company at $14.6 billion. The investment was led by Aker ASA and 8090 Industries, with significant participation from chip giant Nvidia. A consortium of other strategic and financial backers, including Astra Capital Management, Citadel, Dell, Jane Street, Lenovo, Linden Advisors, Nokia, and Point72, also joined.
The capital injection is earmarked to speed up Nscale's plan to build a full-stack AI data center network. The company aims to control everything from the graphics processors and networking hardware to the software that manages AI workloads, with expansion targeted across Europe, North America, and Asia.
Nscale's founder and CEO, Josh Payne, described the current surge in artificial intelligence as driving an unprecedented global construction effort for computing foundations. His statement reflects a view often shared by Nvidia's Jensen Huang, whose company is now a direct investor. Payne positioned Nscale's work as constructing the essential platform for advanced AI systems.
The funding underscores the intense competition and high stakes in building the physical backbone required for the next generation of AI applications, a market that continues to attract massive investment.
