Notion Shuts Down Email Service, Citing Shift to AI-Powered Workflow Management

In a move that underscores the growing reliance on artificial intelligence in workplace productivity, Notion has announced the shutdown of its email service, Notion Mail. This decision comes just over a year after the company acquired Skiff, an encrypted email and productivity software startup, and subsequently launched Notion Mail as a Gmail client. According to a recent post by Notion, the majority of its users have been opting to use AI agents to manage their email workflows, rather than traditional email clients. As a result, Notion has decided to discontinue Notion Mail, effective September 22, and focus on developing its AI-powered agents to handle email tasks.

The company reassures users that their email history will remain intact in Gmail, even after the Notion Mail inbox is shuttered. This shift towards AI-driven workflow management marks an interesting turning point in the evolution of productivity tools, and Notion's decision to prioritize AI agents over traditional email clients is a testament to the changing needs of its user base. With over half of Notion Mail users already relying on AI agents to manage their emails, it's clear that the future of workplace productivity lies in the seamless integration of artificial intelligence and workflow management.
