In a significant shift in strategy, productivity company Notion has announced the shutdown of its email product, Notion Mail, effective September 22. The decision comes as users increasingly rely on Notion's AI agents to manage their email workflows, often without even opening their inbox. According to the company, over half of Notion Mail users now use agents to handle their emails, rendering the traditional inbox experience less necessary. As a result, Notion is doubling down on its agent-based approach, allowing users to run their inbox entirely through these AI-powered tools.

Notion Mail's integration with Gmail ensures that existing emails will remain intact, but users will need to export any drafts or scheduled emails they wish to retain. The company is emphasizing the seamless transition, noting that email-based agents will continue to function after Notion Mail's shutdown. This move marks a notable pivot for Notion, which first introduced Notion Mail in preview mode in 2024 and later launched it to the public in April 2025. The decision to abandon the traditional email product in favor of AI-driven agents reflects the company's evolving vision for the future of productivity and email management.
