Morgan Stanley Strategist Forecasts a $25 Trillion Robotic Future, with Tesla Leading the Charge

In a major strategic shift, Morgan Stanley has appointed veteran analyst Adam Jonas as its global embodied AI strategist. His first major publication, the 'Robot Almanac,' projects a staggering economic transformation: annual robot sales reaching $25 trillion by 2050. This forecast includes hardware, software, and services, with the robotics hardware market alone expected to grow from $91 billion today to $540 billion by 2030.

Jonas, whose career pivot was influenced by a 2008 meeting with Elon Musk, is now focused on what he calls a 'Cambrian explosion of bots.' His vision includes humanoid robots, autonomous vehicles, and drones becoming ubiquitous. He warns that U.S. companies must establish leadership or risk ceding the field to global competitors, particularly China, which is projected to deploy 28% of the world's robots by mid-century, compared to 10% for the U.S.

The report highlights Tesla as a central player. Morgan Stanley expects the company to deploy 1,000 robotaxis by the end of 2026, a measured step toward Elon Musk's broader ambitions. Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot, with sales targeted for late 2027, is seen as a key pillar of this future. Jonas has personally invested in the trend, placing a deposit on a 1X Neo humanoid for his home.

Beyond predictions, Jonas points to tangible movement. Tesla's robotaxis began operating in Austin in June 2025, with plans for a national expansion. Morgan Stanley identifies 25 firms poised to dominate the humanoid sector, a market it values at $5 trillion by 2050. As public listings dwindle, Jonas and his team are guiding the bank's wealthiest clients toward private investments in these emerging robotic technologies, arguing that the physical integration of AI will redefine the global economy in the coming decades.
