Mistral AI is moving forward with a major European infrastructure project, securing $830 million in debt financing to construct a data center near Paris. The facility, set for completion in Bruyeres-le-Chatel by mid-2026, will run on Nvidia hardware.

This development follows CEO Arthur Mensch's announcement last year that the French lab was considering various funding models for its compute ambitions. The Paris project is part of a broader, aggressive expansion. Just last month, Mistral committed $1.4 billion to build AI infrastructure in Sweden. The company's stated goal is to deploy 200 megawatts of computing power across Europe within the next three years.

Mensch framed the build-out as a strategic necessity for European autonomy. In a statement, he noted that governments, businesses, and research bodies are increasingly seeking dedicated, customized AI environments instead of relying on external cloud services. Scaling local infrastructure, he argued, is key to meeting that demand and keeping core innovation within the region.

To date, Mistral has attracted more than €2.8 billion from a roster of prominent backers, including General Catalyst, ASML, Andreessen Horowitz, Lightspeed, and DST Global. The company did not immediately confirm the latest debt financing reports from Reuters and CNBC.
