Meta Platforms has unveiled a series of AI initiatives, including lower-cost smart glasses, an enterprise tool, and a prediction-markets app. However, these efforts have not translated into a boost for the company's stock, which remains one of the worst-performing mega-cap stocks this year, down over 17%. According to Wall Street analysts, investors are no longer impressed by the sheer number of AI-related projects, but rather are waiting to see if these products and services will generate sufficient sales and earnings to justify the company's significant spending on data centers. Meta's aggressive investment in AI has led to rising capital expenditures, with the company increasing its guidance for fiscal 2026 to $125 billion to $145 billion.

This has raised concerns among investors, who are looking for evidence that the company's spending is stabilizing and generating new revenue streams. Despite these challenges, analysts believe that Meta's new AI-powered business messaging agent and paid AI subscription offering, Meta One, could unlock new revenue growth opportunities. The company's ability to continue growing revenue over 20% annually, despite already generating $250 billion in annual sales, is also seen as a positive sign. With a valuation that already reflects investor concerns about AI spending, Meta's stock may be due for a rebound if the company can demonstrate the effectiveness of its AI investments and deliver on its revenue growth potential.
