Meta is losing a top product executive who was spearheading the company's internal transformation around AI agents. Emily Dalton Smith, a veteran product leader who joined the Facebook parent in 2015, is leaving the company, according to an internal memo seen by Reuters.

Smith previously oversaw product management for Threads, Meta's answer to Twitter. But her recent role was more strategic: leading a dedicated team - or "pod" - focused on building the infrastructure that makes AI agents practical for everyday work. That meant developing interfaces, memory systems, automation tools, and shared product experiences to embed AI into Meta's operations.

Her team was also responsible for Metamate, Meta's primary internal enterprise AI assistant. CTO Andrew Bosworth had announced just two months ago that Smith would drive this effort as part of a broader company reorganization centered on AI agents.

In her departure note, Smith said she would stay on to help Bosworth manage the transition. A Meta spokesperson declined to comment.

For business leaders tracking AI deployment, Smith's exit raises questions about continuity in Meta's internal AI strategy - especially as the company competes to make AI agents a core part of how work gets done.
