Jev has become the fastest-adopted AI model ever recorded on Vercel, according to data the company published Thursday.

Within two weeks of launch, the decision model was being used by 35% of paid teams on the platform, reaching nearly double the usage of the second most popular model, Sonnet 5.5. Vercel's figures show no other model has been adopted as quickly in its first two weeks, a notable result for creator TypeSafe AI.

Released in limited form on September 15, Jev is built as a lightweight tool for picking between a small set of predetermined outputs. That constraint lets it run more cheaply and quickly than alternatives like Sonnet, suiting it to classifying large volumes of data fast. The approach drew heavy buzz after release, prompting competing offerings from OpenAI and Amazon, though hard data had been scarce until now.

The numbers come from Vercel's AI gateway, a unified API service similar to OpenRouter. It is a limited view, and may undercount major labs such as OpenAI and Anthropic that run their own APIs, but it indicates the interest in Jev turned into real usage. Vercel itself was an early adopter, swapping out GPT-6 Luna to classify harmful commands.

The report also shows open source models continuing to gain ground, now accounting for over 70% of tokens processed through the gateway and close to 25% of total spend. Even so, the overall market is expanding quickly, with frontier lab spending up tenfold, suggesting frontier and open source models may prove complementary rather than rivals.
