Physical AI is not yet having its ChatGPT moment, according to Amulya Vishwanath, founder and managing partner of Techable Ventures, a venture capital firm focused on the field. In an interview with TechCrunch's Equity, she said many companies and experts talk about a ChatGPT moment for robotics, but the industry is currently more in a "LEGO era."
She explained that many foundational software pieces and building blocks for robotics are being rethought right now, which she called essential for innovation to scale. Today, people are building basics such as robotic hands and actuators that could one day come together like LEGOs to form bigger products. General-purpose and special-purpose robots are also being developed, and she expects them to improve as work continues.
Vishwanath compared the moment to the internet era and the Industrial Revolution, saying it is a matter of time before things fall into place. She also stressed that talent is critical, describing it as a key definer of the U.S. market and one of her firm's moats. Her firm helps connect founders to top talent so they can stay competitive while much talent flows to big companies like Anthropic and Nvidia. She said her network from years in the space makes it easier for her to be a first call for founders.
Before founding Techable Ventures, she spent nearly seven years as a product marketer at Nvidia. She held the same role at a company later bought by Intel and worked as a digital signal processing engineer at Interconnect Systems, later acquired by Molex.
