In a significant consolidation of its artificial intelligence ambitions, Google has formally brought robotics software firm Intrinsic into its main operations. The move, announced today, positions Intrinsic’s technology as a central component of Google’s strategy to bring advanced AI into physical industries, particularly manufacturing.

Intrinsic, launched in 2021 as a speculative venture under Alphabet, develops software intended to make industrial robots more accessible and capable. Its platform allows developers to create applications that can run across various robotic hardware, a concept the company likens to an operating system for machines. The integration will see Intrinsic operate as a dedicated team within Google, drawing directly on resources like the Gemini AI models and Google Cloud infrastructure while collaborating with Google DeepMind researchers.

While the company previously invested in and later sold prominent firms like Boston Dynamics, the Intrinsic absorption suggests a different approach: building a universal software layer for automation.
