Google's Gemini AI is seeing explosive adoption in the corporate world. New figures show developers and companies made more than 85 billion API calls to the model by August, more than double earlier numbers. This demand is translating directly to Google's bottom line, with Cloud revenue climbing 34% last quarter, partly fueled by businesses renting Google's custom AI chips.

The enterprise version of Gemini now has 8 million subscribers. Companies are using it for a range of tasks, from writing software code to analyzing data, drawn by its improved reliability. Its integration into existing Google tools like Workspace has made it easier for businesses to adopt without major technical overhauls.

A significant partnership with Apple to power an upgraded Siri has broadened Gemini's reach, contributing to parent company Alphabet's market valuation hitting $4 trillion. On the advertising side, which remains Google's core business, AI features enhanced by Gemini helped push search and ad revenue to $56.6 billion, a 15% annual increase.

More than 13 million developers are now building with Gemini's models. Industry observers note its market share in generative AI has grown to nearly 14%, aided by Google's vast distribution through its Search engine, Android phones, and productivity software. To keep up with demand, Google is increasing production of its specialized Tensor Processing Unit chips, with new models expected to become available to outside companies soon.

While Google faces challenges, including supply chain pressures for AI hardware, the rapid business uptake of Gemini marks a shift. The model, which launched as Bard in 2023, has moved from a research project to a central engine driving commercial growth across one of the world's largest technology companies.
