Google Rolls Out Gemini Personal Intelligence to Android Auto

Google has begun bringing its Personal Intelligence feature to Android Auto users, extending a Gemini capability that lets the assistant draw on information from other Google apps to give more tailored answers.

The tool arrived earlier in the year and was initially limited to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers before expanding to free accounts in March. Now it is reaching drivers, with a global rollout starting today that excludes Switzerland, the European Economic Area, the UK and Nigeria. Cars with Google built-in are expected to follow in the coming months.

Google says the update sharpens Gemini's reasoning behind the wheel and lets it respond with more specific detail. A driver heading to the airport could ask about a flight's gate or whether it is on time, and Gemini can answer using a linked Gmail account without the driver pulling over to hunt for a confirmation email. Directions can be requested by name rather than address, such as asking to be taken to a doctor's appointment, and restaurant suggestions can account for preferences like a vegetarian diet.

Personal Intelligence remains optional. Users can switch it off at any time and choose which apps Gemini may access.
