Google Photos is rolling out a feature that turns your clothing photos into a virtual closet, letting you mix and match outfits and even preview them before getting dressed. Inspired by the iconic scene from the 1995 film 'Clueless,' the tool uses AI to scan your photo library and automatically catalog individual items—tops, bottoms, jewelry, and more—into searchable categories. You can then combine these pieces into new outfit combinations, save them to moodboards for different occasions, and share ideas with friends. A separate virtual try-on option lets you see how looks might appear on you.
The feature arrives later this summer on Android, with iOS to follow, and will live under the 'Collections' tab. It enters a competitive space already occupied by apps like Acloset and Pureple, but Google’s advantage lies in its massive existing photo library and AI that improves over time. For best results, the company suggests photographing your clothes in good lighting, though the AI can pull from full-body shots you already have. The move signals a broader push to make AI-powered personal styling accessible to anyone with a smartphone.
