Google Merges NotebookLM Research Tool Directly Into Gemini Interface

Google is removing a step from the research process. The company has moved its NotebookLM tool from a standalone application to a core feature within the Gemini chatbot. The integration, rolling out this week, allows users to build and manage research notebooks without leaving the Gemini environment.

Within Gemini's side panel, users can now start a new notebook and add source material—including PDFs, documents, website links, and YouTube videos. NotebookLM then constructs a searchable knowledge base from these materials. The tool can generate summaries, create study guides, and produce multimedia overviews based on the uploaded content, aiming to distill complex information.

A prominent in-app warning from Google advises users that NotebookLM's outputs may contain inaccuracies, recommending verification of any generated information. This full integration is currently available for Gemini Advanced subscribers on the web. Google plans to extend access to mobile devices, more regions, and users on free tiers in the near future.
