The artificial intelligence boom is driving demand for massive gas turbines, with GE Vernova's largest plant in Greenville, South Carolina, at the forefront of production. Engineers and factory workers are collaborating to meet the needs of hyperscalers like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft, which require reliable energy sources to power their AI data centers. GE Vernova's gas turbines are a leading solution for providing firm power at scale, with each turbine capable of powering roughly half a million homes. The company has seen significant growth, hiring 200 workers last year and expecting 300 more by the end of the year.

Leaders from OpenAI and other companies are taking notice, visiting the factory to gain a deeper understanding of industrial design and power generation. With demand far outstripping supply, GE Vernova's order book is full through 2029, and the company is booking orders into 2030 and 2031. The turbines' price tag, which can exceed $250 million, has soared 300% in the last three years, contributing to rising AI capital expenditure budgets. As concerns about data center development and environmental impact grow, GE Vernova is working to make its turbines more sustainable, with a focus on increasing efficiency.

According to Pablo Koziner, chief commercial and operations officer at GE Vernova, the company's turbines are already two times more efficient than those produced 20 years ago. With its stock gaining nearly 60% in the past six months, GE Vernova is well-positioned to meet the growing demands of the AI industry.
