In a welcome development for those awaiting their Framework Laptop 13 Pro, the company has announced that some preorders will actually cost less than initially expected. This is due to Framework securing more affordable PCIe Gen 5 SSDs from supplier Adata, resulting in a free upgrade from 500GB to 1TB for affected configurations. Additionally, new orders can now be placed with the option of 1TB or 2TB SSDs, although these have yet to appear in the DIY configurator. However, this positive update is tempered by the warning of a potential price increase for the entire laptop line in the near future, driven by anticipated rises in CPU pricing.

This comes as the tech industry continues to grapple with the component crisis, which has already led to significant price hikes across various hardware segments, including recent announcements from Apple and Xbox. The Framework Laptop 13 Pro, initially slated for June shipment, has faced delays, with the first units now expected in July due to issues with the haptic touchpad and custom display. As the situation evolves, buyers will be keeping a close eye on any further developments that could impact their purchase.
