A Seattle startup founded by ex-Amazon leaders is betting that the future of online shopping is a store that builds itself for each customer. Spangle AI, launched by former Amazon executives Maju Kuruvilla and Fei Wang, has raised $15 million in Series A financing to advance this vision.

The company’s technology uses self-learning artificial intelligence to construct unique digital storefronts in real time. By analyzing a shopper’s behavior, the system autonomously assembles a custom interface, prioritizing products and layouts tailored to that individual. Early tests with retailers have shown notable increases in sales conversions.

NewRoad Capital Partners led the investment, which values Spangle AI at $100 million. The firm’s backing highlights growing investor interest in moving beyond basic recommendation engines toward AI that actively constructs the shopping environment.

Kuruvilla, formerly CEO of an Amazon unit called Bolt, and Wang, an ex-Amazon engineering lead, bring direct experience in scaling complex retail technology. Their concept, often called agentic commerce, positions AI as an active manager of the customer experience.

This approach arrives as the broader industry explores how autonomous AI can handle tasks from pricing to inventory. While competitors are also entering the space, Spangle AI distinguishes itself with a sharp focus on generating these adaptive storefronts.

The funding will support platform development and expansion. As the technology progresses, its success may hinge on seamlessly integrating with existing retailer systems and navigating evolving data privacy standards. For now, the substantial investment signals a belief that the most effective store might be one that never looks the same twice.
