Ford is introducing a new artificial intelligence tool directly into its Ford Pro telematics software, aiming to simplify the complex job of managing commercial vehicle fleets. The feature, called Ford Pro AI, will be available at no additional charge to the platform's more than 840,000 paid subscribers.
The system functions as a specialized chatbot within the software. Fleet managers can query it using natural language, asking for specific vehicle diagnostics, recommendations to reduce fuel consumption, or even requesting it to compile data into a summary email. Unlike general-purpose AI chatbots, Ford emphasizes its tool is built on what it calls "manufacturer-grade" vehicle data—streaming directly from connected vehicles—to provide precise, reliable answers.
"We've structured this to work with clean, well-organized data from each customer's own fleet," explained Kevin Dunbar, General Manager for Ford Pro Intelligence. "This approach significantly reduces the risk of incorrect AI-generated information."
Notably, the service is designed for mixed fleets; it will work with any connected vehicle on the platform, not just Ford models. This reflects the multi-brand reality of most commercial operations. The AI currently operates in a read-only mode and requires human approval to act on its suggestions. Ford executives stress the goal is to alleviate administrative burdens, not replace managers.
"Fleet management is a high-friction job," said Britta Farrow, Ford Pro Communications Manager. "This tool handles the operational data processing—the kind of work that leads to burnout. It still requires human oversight, and we don't foresee a future where that changes."
While Ford declined to name the specific large-language models powering the assistant, citing a "model agnostic" approach, the company confirmed the feature is built on Google Cloud infrastructure. The rollout is part of Ford's broader strategy to embed AI across its business, from vehicle design to customer service.
