Google is set to introduce a dedicated gaming mode for foldable devices, making it easier for users to play games on-the-go. The new feature, launching in the coming months, will display a virtual gamepad with touch controls on one side of the screen, emulating physical button presses at a system level. This innovative mode is designed to work seamlessly with any game that supports physical controllers, according to Google's Mishaal Rahman. The virtual controller will feature a range of inputs, including a D-pad, virtual sticks, and buttons, which can be customized to suit individual preferences.
Users will be able to configure the gamepad layout, scale button sizes, and toggle haptics on or off. Enabling the mode is straightforward - simply unfold your device before or after launching a compatible game. The virtual gamepad will also automatically turn off when a physical controller is connected. This new feature aims to bridge the gap between touch controls and physical gamepads, providing a more convenient and enjoyable gaming experience for foldable phone users.
With Android 17's foldable gaming mode, users can look forward to a more immersive and engaging gaming experience on their devices.
