Apple's Siri Overhaul Brings Context-Aware AI to iPhones, Macs, and Vision Pro

Apple has unveiled a major update to its voice assistant, now branded Siri AI, powered by the next generation of Apple Intelligence. The system promises deeper personalization, understanding of on-screen content, and real-time web knowledge. Users can ask Siri to pull up a hotel confirmation from an old email, find a restaurant recommendation a friend texted, or brainstorm potluck ideas based on a message thread - then add a recipe directly to Notes.

The assistant now works across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, CarPlay, and Vision Pro, with a dedicated app to revisit past conversations synced via iCloud. On iPad and Mac, Visual Intelligence lets users ask questions about images or screen content; on iPhone, it integrates into the Camera app for tasks like splitting a bill or checking nutritional info.

Under the hood, Apple rebuilt Siri with on-device and server-side models using Private Cloud Compute, ensuring personal data isn't stored or accessible to Apple. Dictation now auto-formats text, and voice speed and expressiveness are customizable. Writing tools let users draft emails or messages that adapt to each recipient's typical tone and punctuation.

Developer testing starts today across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, and visionOS 27, with a public beta rolling out later this year. Initial language support includes English, French, German, Japanese, and more, but features won't launch in China or the EU for iOS and iPadOS pending regulatory approval. Supported devices include iPhone 15 Pro and later, Macs with M1 or newer, and Apple Watch Series 9 or later.
